Based out of Bangalore, Astral Studios has been consistently producing music that pushes the technical boundaries of what music could/should be.
We believe in taking each and every song to it’s peak potential in terms of composition, recording, mixing and mastering.
Established in the year 2016 by Mohammed Uvais Ali, a musician and sound engineer with a keen sense of what every instrument should sound like in a live/recording scenario.
Introduction to audio engineering: This module provides an overview of the history of audio engineering and the role of the audio engineer in the music industry. Students will learn about the basic physics of sound and how it is used to create and record music. They will also learn about the tools and equipment used in audio engineering, including microphones, mixers, and recording software.
Digital audio fundamentals: In this module, students will learn about digital audio concepts such as sampling, quantization, and bit depth. They will learn about different audio file formats and how to work with digital audio files using software such as Pro Tools or Logic. Students will also learn about digital audio workstations (DAWs) and how to use them to record, edit, and process audio.
Microphone techniques: This module covers the basics of microphone selection and placement, as well as advanced techniques for capturing sound in a variety of different settings. Students will learn about different types of microphones and their characteristics, as well as how to use microphones to capture sound in a variety of different settings. Topics include microphone placement, polar patterns, and proximity effect.
Audio recording: This module covers the process of recording audio, including setting up a recording session, selecting appropriate recording levels, and troubleshooting common problems. Students will learn how to use recording software and hardware to capture high-quality audio. Topics include microphone techniques, signal flow, and recording techniques for different instruments and vocals.
Audio editing and processing: In this module, students will learn how to edit and process audio using software such as Pro Tools or Logic. Topics include basic audio editing techniques, noise reduction, and audio restoration. Students will also learn about different types of audio processing effects and how to use them to shape the sound of recorded audio.
Mixing and mastering: This module covers the process of mixing and mastering audio, including setting up a mixing session, using EQ and other processing tools, and preparing audio for distribution. Students will learn how to use software and hardware to create professional-quality mixes. Topics include EQ, compression, and mastering techniques.
Live sound reinforcement: This module covers the basics of setting up and operating a live sound reinforcement system, including selecting and positioning speakers, setting up monitors and mixers, and troubleshooting common problems. Students will learn about different types of live sound systems and how to set them up for different types of events.
Studio design and acoustics: In this module, students will learn about the principles of studio design and acoustics, including how to design a studio for optimal sound quality and how to treat a room to control reflections and minimize noise. Students will learn about different types of acoustical materials and how to use them to control sound in a recording environment.
Music production: This module covers the basics of music production, including how to create and edit music tracks using software such as Pro Tools or Logic. Students will learn about different production techniques and how to create professional-quality music tracks. Topics include arrangement and sequencing.
Drum Recording and Mixing Live Drums:
This module covers the basics of mixing live drums, including the importance of good drum sound in a live mix and the role of the audio engineer in achieving it. Students will learn about the different components of a drum kit and their role in the mix.
Microphone techniques: In this module, students will learn about different microphone techniques for capturing the sound of a drum kit. Topics include microphone selection, placement, and positioning for each drum and cymbal. Students will also learn about using room microphones and drum overheads to capture the sound of the drum kit in the room.
Setting up a drum mix: This module covers the process of setting up a drum mix, including routing and submixing the drum channels and setting up a drum bus. Students will learn how to use EQ and compression to shape the sound of the drum mix and how to use effects such as reverb and delay to create space and depth.
Advanced drum mixing techniques: In this module, students will learn advanced drum mixing techniques such as sample replacement, drum triggering, and drum layering. They will also learn how to use these techniques to enhance the sound of the drum mix and create unique drum sounds.
Mixing in the context of a live mix: This module covers the role of the drum mix in the overall live mix, including how to balance the drums with the other instruments and vocals. Students will learn how to use EQ, compression, and other processing techniques to create a cohesive and balanced live mix.
Troubleshooting common drum mixing problems: This module covers common problems that can arise when mixing live drums and how to troubleshoot and fix them. Students will learn how to identify and fix issues such as phase cancellation, bleed, and mic placement problems.
Mixing different drum styles: This module covers the nuances of mixing different drum styles, including rock, pop, jazz, and electronic. Students will learn how to use EQ, compression, and other processing techniques to achieve the desired drum sound for each genre.
